Coconuts are round to oval fruits with a thick, brown, hairy shell and a white, fibrous, oily flesh inside. They are surrounded by a fibrous husk, and the edible white meat—often called copra when dried—lines the interior. When the coconut is still young, it contains a milky liquid commonly consumed as a staple food in some regions.
